Peaks Challenge – Falls Creek
The mighty Andrew Kantor took to the mountains on March 8th 2015 with his team consisting of 3 other musketeers Andrew Compson, Shane Kent and Tim Shelley.
The weather was better than ever, with fresh mountainous, cripsy cool air inhaled up by more than 1800 riders flying off the start line and finishing with a scorcher to finish off the beautiful day.
Starting and finishing at Falls Creek, the 235km route incorporates more than 4,400 vertical metres with three major climbs – Tawonga Gap, Mount Hotham and Falls Creek. With climbs comparable to a stage in the Tour de France, riders must complete the circuit within 13 hours to receive a “Finisher’s Jersey”.
Andrew managed to smash the climbs finishing with an impressive time of 9hrs:14:09
Averaging a speed of 27.2km/h and maxing 76km/h, Andy also managed to keep a cool average heart rate of 152bpm throughout the challenge. He’s said that he’d definitely be back next year with his wolf pack hoping to break the 9hr barrier!
