AustralianSuper Corporate Triathlon 2015
On a chilly morning on the 1st of March 2015 – 3 warriors from the staff of SMPC stepped out onto Elwood beach to take on the annual corporate triathlon (with minimal training).
The course involved:
Swim 400m:
Staggered wave starts in an open rectangular course in front of the Elwood Life Saving Club at Elwood Beach.
Cycle 10km:
A flat out-and-back course from Elwood Beach, left onto Ormond Esplanade, Beaconsfield Parade, to Armstrong St and return on the south-bound, lanes closed to traffic. Full road closure for cycle course.
Run 4km:
Transition area onto bike path to Elwood
Canal and return along foreshore paths to finish.
Luckily (for Ben) the typical Melbourne weather brought us a stormy night before and the water was deemed too dangerous and dirty to swim in. Instead, a gruelling/calf busting 400m run along the soft sand replaced the swim.
The team of Andrew Kantor, Ben Lin, and Darren Austin pulled off a stunning run to come overall 3rd in their category. The day turned out to be gorgeous as seen in the photo below. Also had a bit of fun afterwards on the smoothie making bikes!
Til nxt year..
